The 2023 MWA Kids Fishing Derby

The 2032 MWA Kids Fishing Derby is scheduled for Saturday March 4, 2023, at Javors Lucas Lake -- the Authority's 581-acre drinking water reservoir. The free event is open to children and youth from the ages of 3 to 16. Prizes will be awarded to the winners in four age group categories, as well as a grand prize for biggest catch of the day. Becuase of the March date of the event, Javors Lucas Lake will be stocked with trout for the young anglers to catch.

Registration for the MWA Kids Fishing opens at 6:00 a.m., with the tournament starting at 7:00 a.m. The weigh-in of the best catches of the day begins at 10:00 a.m. Refreshment will be provided, but you must bring your own bait and tackle.

Fishing Derbies and Group Events

Fishing tournaments are welcomed at Javors Lucas Lake, which is an ideal setting for area groups or organizations to host special events. However, individuals with groups fishing during a scheduled tournament must adhere to all rules and regulations governing the use of Javors Lucas Lake and Georgia Public Waters (provided in the "Rules and Regulations" link below). And groups requesting that Javors Lucas Lake open early for scheduled events must coordinate those logistics and pay for the security necessary to accommodate such a request.

In Honor of Mr. Javors J. Lucas

Javors Lucas Lake was dedicated in November of 2006 to honor the late MWA Board Member, Javors J. Lucas, who served the Authority and the citizens of District 2 in Macon-Bibb County for 36 years. The MWA drinking water reservoir holds an estimated 5.8 billion gallons of water at normal full pool, providing the ideal habitat for a variety of fish, including bream, bass, and catfish.
