MWA to celebrate Drinking Water Week with open house at Amerson Plant on Thursday, May 6

Highlights to include tours of facility producing America’s Best Tasting Water

Guests enjoy a plant tour of the MWA Amerson Water Treatment Plant during a previous open house and plant tour during National Drinking Water Week. This year, the Authority will celebrate Drinking Water Week by inviting the public to the award winning water plant on Thursday, May 6.

The Macon Water Authority (MWA) will celebrate National Drinking Water Week – which is set for May 2 – 8, 2010 – with an open house for the public at its Frank C. Amerson, Jr. Water Treatment Plant on Thursday, May 6, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Plant tours, educational information, giveaways and refreshments will be offered during this prime opportunity to see the facility up close, while learning about the operations that produced the Best Tasting Drinking Water in North America. Admission to the event is free.

Several local schools and community groups are expected to visit during the morning and early afternoon, but MWA customers and residents are welcome as well. To request a specific time for a group tour, especially one with more than 10 people, guests are asked to call ahead. Tours of the Amerson Plant also are available other days during the week, except on Wednesday.

At the 2009 annual conference of the American Water Works Association, the Macon Water Authority won the Best of the Best Drinking Water Taste Test, which was a competition among all water utilities in North America to determine the best tasting tap water. The Amerson Plant has also been selected three times – in 2002, 2005, and 2008 – as the Best Operated Plant in the state by the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP).
