MWA recognizes three retirees from water system operations
John Wilder, Garfield Calhoun, and Charles Stephens had 90 years of combined experience
The MWA Board of Directors congratulates John Wilder (center) upon his retirement from the Authority as an Assistant Manager in Water Distribution. Wilder worked for the water utility for 36 years, starting his first day on August 7, 1973.
The Macon Water Authority (MWA) Board of Directors recently recognized three employees who retired at the start of this year, with approximately 90 years of combined work experience in the utility’s water system operations.
Charles Stephens retired as a Waterline Maintenance Worker after completing 24 years in the field, while Garfield Calhoun and John Wilder retired with 30 and 36 years of service, respectively. Calhoun was working as a Supervisor in the Water Distribution Department at the time of his retirement, while Wilder served as an Assistant Manager, also in Water Distribution.
The MWA honored the three men with proclamations that noted they had diligently and faithfully pursued the goal of rendering excellent service to the Authority, its customers and the citizens of Macon and Bibb County, thereby earning the respect of the Board of Directors and colleagues. The special recognition also noted that they had conducted themselves professionally and in a manner that reflected well on the water utility.
With the three men all working on the water side of operations, they could take great pride in leaving the Authority at a time when it had been selected by the American Water Works Association for having the Best Tasting Drinking Water in North America.
