Regular Fishing Season open at Macon Water Authority’s Javors Lucas Lake
Following March meeting, MWA Board of Directors expands schedule for 2010
Conner Wheeler and Tanner Pate had great success fishing Javors Lucas Lake last year. Local anglers will want to put down June 5, 2010 on their calendars. That’s when the MWA will host its annual Kids Fishing Derby at Javors Lucas Lake.
The regular fishing season at Javors Lucas Lake officially opened the first weekend in March, but following a vote by the Macon Water Authority (MWA) Board of Directors during its March meeting, the schedule is being expanded for 2010.
Beginning Thursday March 4, and extending through Sunday July 4, Javors Lucas Lake will be open to local anglers on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
In addition to adding Thursdays to the schedule for the months of May and June, Javors Lucas Lake will be open on Monday, May 31, for the Memorial Day holiday. The lake will be open the entire July 4 weekend as well.
Javors Lucas Lake will be closed from July 5 to Sept. 1, but will reopen the first weekend of September, including Monday, Sept. 6, for the Labor Day holiday.
The lake then will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from September 2, through the last weekend in October. The Authority Board has added Thursdays during the months of September and October to the 2010 fishing schedule.
The last day of the MWA public fishing season for this year will be Sunday, Oct. 31. Lucas Lake will be closed to the public during November and December, as well as during January and February of 2011.
The fees for gaining access to Javors Lucas Lake for fishing will remain the same this year as they were in 2009. The parking fee for those fishing from the shore is $5 per vehicle, but $10 for vehicles with a boat. Gas powered boats are not allowed on Lucas Lake. Season passes are available for $100.
The annual MWA Kid’s Fishing Derby, one of the most popular public education and recreation events of the year for Macon/Bibb County and Middle Georgia anglers, will be held at Javors Lucas Lake on Saturday June 5, 2010. The event starts at 7:30 a.m., with the weigh in set for 11:30 a.m., when awards and prizes will be handed out for the biggest catch of the day in various age categories. The event is for kids age 16 and under, who must be accompanied by an adult. Admission for all anglers that day is free.
