MWA manager selected as Director-at-Large for the American Water Works Association
Gary McCoy joins board of directors for the water industry’s national trade group
Gary McCoy (far left) joins in the celebration this past summer when AWWA Past President Michael J. Leonard (center) presented the Macon Water Authority with the industry’s award for having the Best Tasting Drinking Water in North America. Now McCoy has been selected to join the AWWA Board of Directors.
As his selfless service continues within his profession’s trade associations, so too do the honors and accolades for Gary McCoy, the Director of Water Treatment for the Macon Water Authority.
Fresh off his term as the Chairman of the Georgia Section of the American Water Works Association (AWWA), he now advances to a leadership position on the national level.
The AWWA has selected McCoy to fill one of four Director-at-Large seats on its Board, following his application and successful interview for the post during the Association’s recent winter board meeting in St. Petersburg, Florida.
The AWWA Board of Directors consists of 57 members, with one Director coming from each of the 43 sections of the Association from across the country, 10 seats being filled by officers, and the final four posts occupied by Directors-at-Large such as McCoy. He will take office at the Annual Conference of AWWA in Chicago this June.
The AWWA has approximately 60,000 members representing the nation’s water utilities and related professions. As a member of its Board of Directors, McCoy will help establish and review major policies of the Association, as well as prepare and approve budgets, by-laws, governing documents, and long-range plans.
“I was shocked when the AWWA nominating committee selected me as one of the three finalists for the vacant Director-at-Large position,” says McCoy.
“Then to be the successful candidate chosen for this office is a real honor. I think it reflects how well the Macon Water Authority prepares us for professional growth, achievement, and service within our industry.”
