Think before pouring grease down the sink
MWA has limited number of grease can covers available at its headquarters
By pouring grease, fats, and oils into a can and securing it with a grease can cover, rather than pouring it down the drain, MWA customers can help reduce sewer spills and overflows in the Authority’s system.
The Macon Water Authority is asking its customers to “Think, before pouring grease down the sink.”
According to industry data, approximately half of sewer spills and overflows are caused by grease. When grease is poured down your drain, it enters the Authority’s sewer system, where it eventually clogs sewer lines and causes spills and overflows.
Grease, oils, and fats not only damage our sewer system, but they damage your home’s plumbing as well. So help protect our infrastructure and our environment – as well as your plumbing – by not pouring grease down your drain. Instead, let it cool, pour it into a container, and throw that can away in the trash.
The Macon Water Authority has a limited number of grease can covers, which are available for customers at the Albert Billingslea headquarters building on Second Street, to help you properly dispose of household grease.
