MWA celebrating Drinking Water Week
May 2, 2016 by Chris Wood, Ph.D.

MWA employees received recognition on Monday May 2, to commemorate Water Professionals Appreciation Day in Georgia, which kicked off Drinking Water Week at the utility. An Open House at the Amerson Water Treatment Plant is set for Thursday May 5.
The Macon Water Authority (MWA) is celebrating national Drinking Water Week (May 1-7, 2016) with an Open House Thursday May 5, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Frank C. Amerson, Jr. Water Treatment Plant, located at 703 Riverbend Road in Macon. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
During the Open House at the Amerson Plant, the MWA will be providing the public with plant tours and educational information on its process for producing the Best Tasting Drinking Water in North America, as judged by the American Water Works Association (AWWA) in 2009. MWA drinking water also was selected as the “People’s Choice” for best tasting water in Georgia last year.
Last week, the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP) recognized the Amerson Plant with the Best Operated Plant of the Year Award during its Spring Conference in Columbus. The Authority also received the award for Best Tasting Drinking Water in Georgia’s District 5, and two additional facility awards and three individual honors for outstanding performance or achievement.
This year’s theme for Drinking Water Week is “Your Water, to know it is to love it.”
For more than 35 years, AWWA and its members, such as the MWA, have celebrated Drinking Water Week as a unique opportunity for both water professionals and the communities they serve to join together in recognizing the vital role water plays in our daily lives.
In the state of Georgia, Monday (May 2) marked Water Professionals Appreciation Day, as designated by the Georgia General Assembly. The MWA held an in-house employee appreciation event to recognize the more than 200 Authority employees for their dedication and service to Macon-Bibb County and the utility’s customers.
