MWA Closing Customer Service Lobby

Mar 16, 2020 by Chris Wood, Ph.D.

The Macon Water Authority (MWA) will be temporarily closing its Customer Service lobby as a result of growing concerns and recommendations by health care officials to reduce the risk of the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19 pandemic).

In accordance with current public health guidelines, the MWA is limiting the potential exposure to COVID-19 by altering business operations until further notice, which includes shutting down the high-traffic customer service lobby at the Albert Billingslea Administrative Headquarters Building, located at 790 Second Street, in downtown Macon.

This precautionary measure is intended to reduce face-to-face interaction between Authority customers and employees while conducting daily business, such as processing bill payments and customer service applications. However, the MWA drive through will remain open to serve customers between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

In addition to the Authority’s onsite drive thru, MWA Customers will have the option of making payments via the following methods: ACH, E-Bills, the Nightly Drop Box, or via the Authority’s Website Live Chat or Customer Self-Service Portal; in addition, customers can call directly to the MWA Call Center at 478-464-56000, or access the IVR System at 844-517-9741. (Customers should have their account number available when using the pay-by-phone payment option).

The MWA anticipates it may experience increased absenteeism, since several Authority employees may have to remain home to provide childcare, due to the closing of local schools. As a result, customers may experience longer than normal wait times when calling, so the Authority asks for your patience and understanding during this time.

“The health and safety of our customers and the community we serve is of the upmost importance,” says Tony Rojas, MWA President and Executive Director. As previously announced, the MWA has suspended residential service disconnections, so all customers will have safe and reliable water and sewer services, without the worry of service interruption. In addition, “We continue to stress that COVID-19 has no impact on the safety or quality of our water treatment and distribution, nor wastewater collection and treatment,” adds Rojas.

Since this is a fluid situation, the MWA will continually revaluate proactive and responsive actions to protect the safety and welfare of its customers. For more information on COVID-19 as it relates to the safety of your drinking water, please refer to the EPA website at

For general inquiries, customers can email the MWA at, post questions on the Authority’s Facebook page, or call Customer Care at 478-464-5600.
