Javors Lucas Lake open for public fishing

Javors Lucas Lake is open for public fishing, as the 2017 season kicked off on March 3.

The Macon Water Authority (MWA) Outdoor Recreation Committee, which oversees the planning for the public fishing season and annual Kids Fishing Derby, has announced the dates for the 2017 Fishing Season at Javors Lucas Lake.

The dates of the 2017 MWA Fishing Season are as follows:

• March 3 – April 30, 2017
Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 6:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

• May 5 – June 25, 2017
Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 6:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

• July 1 – August 31, 2017
Javors Lucas Lake is closed for public fishing and boating.

• Sept. 2 – Oct. 29, 2017
Saturdays and Sundays from 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Javors Lucas Lake will be closed on the annual holidays of Memorial Day, Independence Day (July 4), and Labor Day. The Lake also will be closed during the months of November and December, 2017, as well as January and February, 2018.

The annual MWA Kids Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday June 2, 2017. The event is open to children ages 3 to 16, who will be able to fish for prizes in four age group categories, including an overall winner for the biggest catch of the day.

The 2017 rates for fishing at Javors Lucas Lake remain the same:

• A seasonal pass to fish by boat is $100.

• A seasonal pass to fish from the shore is $50.

• A daily pass to fish by boat is $10.

• A daily pass to fish from the shore is $5.

Only boats with electric powered (trolling) motors are allowed on the reservoir (Javors Lucas Lake), and guests must adhere to MWA rules and state regulations for fishing Georgia waters. The Authority reserves the right to close Javors Lucas Lake on scheduled fishing days in the event of inclement weather or maintenance.
