Come join us on Oct. 7th for Ocmulgee Alive!

Sep 15, 2017 by Chris Wood, Ph.D.

Students from Mercer University, joined by Altamaha Riverkeeper Jen Hilburn (second from right) and MWA President and Executive Director Tony Rojas (far right), prepare to pick up trash from kayaks during last year’s Ocmulgee Alive!

The Macon Water Authority (MWA) and its Macon Water Alliance subsidiary, in partnership with NewTown Macon/Ocmulgee Heritage Trail and Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful, will be hosting the 13th Annual Ocmulgee Alive! on Saturday Oct 7, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Macon’s Annual River Cleanup is held in conjunction with the statewide Rivers Alive campaign of the Georgia Environmental Protection Division’s (EPD) Outreach Program. Rivers Alive was established to create awareness of and involvement in the preservation of Georgia waterways.

Sponsors of this year’s event include YKK USA, Graphic Packaging International, and Kamin Performance Minerals.

Organizers are targeting between 300 to 400 volunteers for this year’s event, so MWA customers are invited to take part in this year’s Ocmulgee Alive! Those without a pre-assigned location to clean can meet at 8:15 a.m. on Oct. 7, at Amerson River Park for instructions.

The coveted 2017 Ocmulgee Alive! commemorative t-shirt is free to those who register early, while supplies last. Registration forms and additional details are available through the “Learn More” link below.

We hope to see you there!
