Geographical Information System (GIS)
The Macon Water Authority (MWA) maintains and operates a Geographical Information System (GIS) as a function of the Engineering Department. The MWA's GIS is a digital database of the MWA's assets, including both water and sanitary sewer infrastructure. Additionally, GIS maintains all as-built information for projects and digital maps of Bibb County. GIS data is shared with the City of Macon and Bibb County government agencies to:
1) assist the Fire Department by providing maps of fire hydrant locations, which helps to lower their respone time.
2) assist contractors when road, storm drain, or other repairs are required to limit damage to MWA assets.
