Customer Service
Late Payment Policy
On January 5, 2005, the Macon Water Authority (MWA) implemented a fee for late payment. This fee is a minimum of $3.00 or 10% of the overdue balance, whichever is greater. The bill is due generally 15 days after bills are mailed to customers. On May 5, 2005, the MWA Board of Directors amended the late penalty policy to provide for a five-day grace period. The late fee is assessed to customer accounts if they fail to pay the balance after the five-day grace period.
MWA customers have 30 days after the bill is mailed to bring their account current, or an administrative fee of $20.00 will be assessed. The MWA may then disconnect the services of those customers should the account remain unpaid after the administrative fee is assessed.
The MWA has instituted this policy to provide customers an incentive to pay their bills in a timely manner and to prevent them from generating excessive balances, which they may be unable to pay in order to have their service reconnected.
