Stormwater Pollution starts with trash and litter

One look at the trash and litter on the side of the road, and you have all the examples of stormwater pollution you need – paper, aluminum cans, plastic bottles, cigarette butts, food wrappers, etc. Anything thrown on the ground, whether it ends up in a stormwater drain or not, is certain to negatively impact our community in several ways. First, Aesthetics -- who wants to look at trash and litter on the streets? Imagine the impression guests have of our community when they see this. Second, Flooding -- trash and litter can clog stormwater drains and cause flooding that can negatively impact homes and businesses. Finally, Water Quality -- whether they enter the stormwater drain or not, trash and litter are likely to end up in a water body that provides our community with raw water for drinking water production. For more tips on how to prevent Stormwater Pollution, in addition to putting litter in its place, please visit the "Learn More" link below.
