Don't Let FOG Ruin Your Holidays
While the holiday season is the ideal time for home cooked meals, what’s not ideal is having FOG ruin those special occasions with family and friends. Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG), when poured down your sink, can cause costly sewer backups in your home, as well as spills and overflows within our sewer system. In fact, over half of MWA sewer spills and overflows are caused by FOG. Please help us in the fight against FOG, especially this holiday season, by not putting these items down your kitchen sink. Here are some helpful household tips on how to help us fight FOG: • Let cooking oils and grease cool before pouring into a sealed container to throw in the trash. [The MWA has free, reusable grease can covers to help. Pick one up the next time you’re at our Second Street Headquarters.] • Remove oils and grease from cooking utensils and cookware prior to washing. • Place food scraps in the trash. • Wipe plates clean prior to washing as well. For more information on the fight against FOG, please see the "Learn More" link below.
